Virginia eLearning Backpack Initiative

The eLearning Backpack Initiative, funded largely by state grant, is providing a tablet computer to every 9th grade student at Bayside, Green Run and Kempsville high schools. In addition, students are receiving supporting digital content, applications and access to content creation tools. These three schools have received this grant to assist them in reaching full accreditation.

The four-year program is beginning with this year's freshmen. Each successive freshman class over the following three years will benefit from the grant by receiving tablet devices. Consequently, at the grant's conclusion, all students in these schools should be in possession of a tablet.

Students can use their new devices in school and at home. However, before a tablet can be distributed to a student, both the student and a parent/guardian must sign a Student Tablet Checkout form (include link to form) and return that completed form to the school. To obtain the complete guidelines for participation, download this document: the eLearning Backpack Initiative Tablet Distribution Handbook. Those with questions about the guidelines or the program in general, should contact the school's administration.
