Principal

James D. Miller
Mr. Miller began his career with Virginia Beach City Public Schools in 1987 when he joined the division as a social studies teacher at Green Run High School.  He held this position for 14 years before moving to Landstown High School in the same capacity.  In 2003, he joined the division’s administrative ranks when he was named an assistant principal at Landstown High School.  In conjunction with his other duties, Mr. Miller also served as an evening administrator at Open Campus High School (now part of the Renaissance Academy) from 1993 – 2004. Mr. Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education with a minor in History from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the George Washington University.  He was named Teacher of the Year at both Green Run High School (1995) and Landstown High School (2003) as well as Assistant Principal of the Year (2008) and Principal of the Year (2013) by the Virginia Beach Association of Secondary School Principals.

Student Activities Coordinator

Lisa Corprew
Ms. Corprew joined the VBCPS division and returned to her Alma Mater, Bayside High School in 1995 where she served in various capacities as a teacher assistant and adaptive Health/PE teacher.  She also coached JV girls’ basketball and softball from 1995 – 1999.  Ms. Corprew joined the Bayside High School administrative team in July 1999 when she was appointed Student Activities Coordinator. Ms. Corprew holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from East Carolina University and earned her Certification in Athletic Administration in 2009.  Ms. Corprew was named Athletic Administrator of the Year (2013) and received the State Award of Merit in 2014 from the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

School Improvement Specialist

Nancy Grimstead
Ms. Grimstead joined the VBCPS division in 1985 as a Business Education Teacher at Green Run High School, a position she held before moving to Landstown High School in 2001 in the same capacity.  Ms. Grimstead joined the Bayside High School administrative team in August 2013 as the School Improvement Specialist. Ms. Grimstead holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education from Longwood University, and a Master of Arts degree in Education Administration and Supervision from the George Washington University.

Health Sciences Academy Coordinator

Terry Mejia
Mrs. Mejia joined the VBCPS division in 1989 at Bayside Junior High School (now Bayside Middle School) where she worked as a Math Teacher, a position she held for 9 years before moving to the field of School Counseling in 1998.  She served as a Counselor at Bayside Middle and High School.  In 2011 she was appointed Acting Coordinator for the Health Sciences Academy and then returned to her Counseling position in 2012.  Mrs. Mejia officially joined the Bayside High School administrative team in the July 2013 when she was appointed Coordinator for the Bayside High School Health Sciences Academy. Mrs. Mejia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Virginia Tech, a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Old Dominion University and a Post Master’s Certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration from the George Washington University.

Assistant Principal

Dr. Bermina Nickerson
Dr. Nickerson began her teaching career in 1993. Dr. Nickerson has worked with all grade levels and in other school buildings. Dr. Nickerson joined the Bayside High School administrative team in July 2007 when she was assigned as an Assistant Principal. Dr. Nickerson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Science from Old Dominion University, a Master of Arts degree in Urban Education from Norfolk State University and a Doctorate in Education from NOVA Southeastern University.

Assistant Principal

Dr. Robin Reese
Dr. Reese began her teaching career in 1985 at Green Run High School as a Special Education Teacher, a position she held until her transfer to the Bayside Middle School 6th Grade Campus where she worked in the same capacity. In 2002 she joined the Tallwood High School administrative team when she was named Assistant Principal. Dr. Reese joined the Bayside High School administrative team in July 2011. Dr. Reese holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Norfolk State University, a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Regent University, and a Doctorate in Education from NOVA Southeastern University.

Assistant Principal

Richard B. Trumble
Mr. Trumble joined the VBCPS division in 1997 as a Special Education teacher at Corporate Landing Middle School, where he served until 2000 when he was appointed as an Assistant Principal at Ocean Lakes High School, a position he held for 10 years before being reassigned in the same position at Kellam High School.  Mr. Trumble joined the Bayside High School administrative team in July 2016 as an Assistant Principal. Mr. Trumble holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration from Ohio University and a Masters of Arts degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Tulsa.  He received his teaching certification from Old Dominion University and his administrative endorsement from the George Washington University.

Assistant Principal

Kenneth Vaughan
Mr. Vaughan joined the VBCPS division in 2010. He has served as a Math teacher at Renaissance Academy, and a Computer Resource Specialist at Great Neck Middle School. In December of 2012 Mr. Vaughan returned to his Alma Mater, Bayside High School and joined their administrative team as an Administrative Assistant, a position he held until July 2014 when he was appointed as an Assistant Principal. Mr. Vaughan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Lynchburg College, a Masters of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and Administration both from Regent University.

Guidance Director

Tamara Welch
Mrs. Welch began her career in 1988 as a Science teacher in New Orleans at Warren Easton Fundamental High School, a position she held for 15 years before moving to the field of school counseling in 2003.  Mrs. Welch has served as a Science Teacher, Guidance Counselor, and Student Support Specialist in New Orleans and Kentucky.  Mrs. Welch joined the Bayside High School administrative team in July 2013 as the school’s Guidance Department Chairperson. Mrs. Welch holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Eduation from Dillard University, and a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health and School Counseling from Xavier University.
